So those of you that urged me to create a motion comic for my "Siren of Dathomir" web comic are in for quite the treat. I've successfully "scored" it to find just the right tone (and by "scored", I mean "found the right tracks from my iPod), have written new and improved dialogue, and am also writing a few new shots to tie the scenes together a bit. Color me George Lucas, because this will be my Special Edition!

And, wow, oh wow, wowza. There are some really, really, REALLY awesome surprises attached to this motion comic. Outside of my own involvement. I really wish I could say more, but I don't want to spill the beans yet. When I have more concrete things to talk about, I will. But this is going to blow minds. I'm not saying this with an ego, I just know it'll just flat-out make brains explode on the wall, because I'm still cleaning up pieces of my own cerebellum off my bedroom wall. And for those of you sneaks trying to guess, I WILL NOT CONFIRM OR DENY ANY SPECULATION. =) But I encourage it if it's something you'd enjoy, haha.

Get excited, guys. As it turns out, this is going to be even bigger than I ever thought it had the potential to be. And I'm really glad you guys convinced me to do it. =)

In the meantime, I was pleasantly surprised to see :iconchrisgemini: made this really cool tie-in comic page of what happened to the clone he designed in the original contest for the original Siren of Dathomir comic I did. It actually gave me an idea to make a quick montage with some narration in the very beginning of the motion comic, so I might go ahead and incorporate my own version of this scene too! If I can swing it, anyway. Check it!

Thanks! I can't wait to show you guys, too!

And yeah, you're absolutely right. The last two years flew by, and the difference of where I am now vs. then is unreal. I can't wait until you graduate and can focus on art full time, you're gonna blaze past all of us!

I can't wait until I graduate too!
The school that I was going to transfer to dropped my Game Art program so now I'm all the way back to step one in looking for colleges and applying.
So I'm stressed but keeping a positive outlook nonetheless!

Hey didn't know you were making a motion comic of this! Sounds beyond awesome^^

If you ever need voice acting or whatever could help you, let me know!

Keep us updated on that project ;)

PS: how are you going to animate it? Adobe After effects? I planned to make a chapter of my own comic a motion comic as well, so be so kind and let me know how you're going to realize that :D Would help me in my own quest I guess!

Peace Dude

haha Thanks, Chris! I hope you dig it!

I'll keep you posted! I have a few candidates in mind for voice acting, but if they don't work out, I'll let you know. Casting Fordo is gonna be the toughest. How is your clone accent? =D hahaha

Not sure how helpful it is, but I'm using Sony Vegas 9 PRO to animate it all together. I'm building all the moving parts in Photoshop and making them all pan together individually in Vegas. It's just like Photoshop, just a matter of figuring out how to make things pan and zoom in layers on the timeline, which I already knew how to do. If you end up getting Vegas and have any issues, let me know and I'd be happy to skype with you to screenshare how to do things.

Wow sounds awesome! So I've not read a whole lot of motion comics...do they typically have audible dialogue, or just music and written dialogue? Either way I cannot wait to see this!

Motion comics are basically the lazy man's comics/animation haha. I'm working on a really cool one right now for a client (which is what got me thinking about doing my own), and they do typically have people cast to do voice acting to read the dialogue. I guess the best way to describe it is a middle ground between animation and comics. Some moving pieces, panning, zooming, and other little things. Most motion comics, though, are created from pre-existing flattened comics (Watchmen did a really cool one but it's like 8 hours long....literally haha), but I'm gonna be building mine with this in mind, so it'll be much easier to make come alive.

Anyway, you should check out the Death of Spider-Man motion comic. It's 20 minutes but AMAZING. Really well done. That's one that used pre-existing flattened comics, but it's still really great:

(And yes, I totally cried at the end.)

Joe! you can't just put this out there and not say anything else ! I would love to do what you do and have you connections and devortion to your art, that you have to my own. I would love to get some of my own art/stories animate or drawn by you but the means just isn't there.

now for the guessing part!

Believe me, Kira, it's killing me to not just BLURT everything out, but I want to save it for when there's something to show instead of just telling. It would make it much cooler. =) I had to share SOMETHING because I felt like I was going to burst if I didn't!
